WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?

Health is about more than just the absence of disease

Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. The aim of nutritional therapy is to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health.

Nutritional therapy is relevant both for individuals looking to enhance their health and wellbeing and for those with chronic conditions wishing to work with or 'consult' a nutritional therapist in collaboration with other suitably qualified healthcare professionals.

Practitioners consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional. They will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.

Nutritional Therapy: About Us

CONSULTATIONS

Before the first consultation, you will be asked to complete a comprehensive health and nutrition questionnaire. An initial consultation is 90 minutes. During this time we will discuss in detail your current health concerns, symptoms, any diagnoses you have and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication, supplements and diet.
Your individual needs will be evaluated and combined with the extensive evidence base for nutritional science to develop a personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle plan.
Follow up consultations are generally  four to six weeks later in order to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments. Further follow-ups may be required depending on each individual situation.

ONE-TO-ONE CONSULTATIONS

Consultations can take place via Zoom video software. You would always be welcome to have a loved one join you on the call.

For clients who prefer face to face consultations, these can be arranged in  COVID-19 secure clinic space in my clinic in Southport, in the North West of England.

I aim to make my clinics and consultations as accessible as possible for all. If you have any communication or accessibility needs please do let me know.

FUNCTIONAL TESTING

Tests which may provide useful insight into your health status may be offered where appropriate. Testing is always optional. Testing can help to provide a clearer direction for a more targeted and individualised plan for you.
The sophisticated laboratory investigations available include blood chemistry, nutritional, gastrointestinal, hormonal, cardiovascular, genetic, metabolic, autoimmune and parasitology testing, and are carried out by recognised UK medical laboratories.
